PostSecret

Todays activity was extremely fun. It allowed us to express our self anonymously so there is no way for someone to laugh at us personally. My post secret audience is kids who think they are better in things than they actually are. Kids who always think they can out do everyone but in reality they cant. The design feature that i use is simplicity. I choose to have only one picture just to bring the point out. My secret changed the style of the design because my secret was very plain so my picture, i thought, needed to be simple and precise.

Paper 3

The most effective peer review technique is when we read the paper by our self and we write small comments in the side of paper describing what work and what doesn't  After we wrote on the paper we then discuss what we thought with the author of the paper. As we talk its brings up new ideas that the author should put in the paper as well take out parts that are confusing. The pitch would be more effective if we all had prepared for it but honestly i dont believe anyone worked on their pitch for more than 15 min to prepare. But the outcome was helpful because it brought ideas to me that i didn't think about. Overall the peer reviews helps me write my paper and bring new ideas i couldnt have come up with by my self.

https://www.adbusters.org/content/absolut-coma

This image tries to depict what happens when you drink too much Absolute Vodka. The shape of the blood containers is the same as the shape of an Absolute bottle. It describes that if you drink to much you will end up in the hospital. To further push this point under the picture there is a fragment that describes that by drinking too much you will end up in coma. The background colors help the viewer focus on the blood bag because by having completely different colors and all of them aiming to the middle the viewers eyes centralizes on the blood bag. This add is trying to explain that drinking a lot will end you up in a place where you dont want to be in, the hospital.

Magazine Advertisment

The advertisment in the Sports Illustrated magazine is meant for one audience, older men in their sixties.  This ad has a picture of a older man up on a mountain over looking a lake. It tries to protray that even though the men in the picture is old he can still do anythign that he wants. This picture is in the background becasue Viagra is trying to show that nothign can stop you even as you get older. This ad uses pathos (emotion) to get the readers to buy their products becasue as men read the ad and see that the guy can do what he wants they might want to buy it or maybe other guys are around the same age as the guy  in the ad so they feel they can do the same. This ad is trying to sell that you shouldnt let anythign stop you, so dont let a body disability stop you.

Free Writing

I have never been a reader. During my free time i have always preferred to be with friends or play sports; however, in the last couple years i started to get an urge to read. My first series of books i read were Dan Brown's: Lost Symbol, Angels & Demons, Deception Point and Digital Fortress. All these books dealt with the protagonist being chased around the world to save the world from something or someone. While reading these books they gave me a feeling indescribably. It was as if the books placed me next to the protagonist and we were saving the world together. I realized that all the books i have been reading had all one thing in common, they were actions-mystery books. The suspense and thrill the books gave me was like nothing else. The books made me feel as if the events occurring were real life events taking place all over the world. As i kept reading more and more i turned to war stories as my next genre to read. I found some really interesting war fictional stories based on nonfiction events. These books showed me a different of passed events. For example, one book was about sniper Chris Kyle and his record 255 confirmed kills during his four tours in Iraq. I was able to see how it was to be a soldiers in Iraq and feel like they have an angel watching their backs, which was Chris. I was hoping to continue my reading through college, but now when ever i have free time i prefer to be relaxing than reading a book. I hope to get back to reading but i'm stuck deciding what book to get.

I have never been a reader. During my free time i  prefer to be relaxing with friends or playing sports; however, in the last couple years i started to get an urge to read. In the beginning it was weird deciding what to read because i had no clue what to read; mysteries, actions, romance they seemed all the same to me. So i decided to go to Barnes and Nobles and just walk around until i found a book i like. This lead me to find my first series of books i read. Which were Dan Brown's: Lost Symbol, Angels & Demons, Deception Point and Digital Fortress. All these books dealt with the protagonist being chased around the world to save the world from something or someone. While reading these books they gave me a feeling indescribably. Peer Edit for Paper 2

After todays peer review i started to be doubt my essay. I didn't know if it was good enough, or better said if it was written well enough. However, i came to conclude that that is how i write and thats the way i express my self. I know it is complicated and confusing but thats why FSU has the english  writing center so student can clean up their essay. I know my writing is confusing sometimes because i get to many ideas at once so the outcome is a paper with very different thoughts but i don't think i need to change the way i write for others. I know my english writing skills aren't the best, but thats why i know I'm not a English major. However, i know that my writing offers a distinctive perspective than others. I don't chose or i don't try to write like everyone else because i find that boring. I like to write how i write because thats how i enjoy it. I could write like everybody else but thats too main stream and i feel ill just be following, which i don't like to do. One thing i will change about my paper is the clarity of the sentence structure. I think the more i write the better i will get. Before our first paper i haven't written a formal paper since December of senior year so I'm not shocked to know that my writing is bad. Although its been a while since i wrote a paper it shouldn't be an excuse. However, i like the peer editing but i find it that even though u get good response from your peer editor they don't know the way you write. I believe that each person puts their own spin in how they write their paper so its hard to tell others what to write when they believe in writing a paper in their own style.

Response to Feedback of Paper 2

Today we received our paper 2 drafts back. We were able to see what Ms. Lang liked and didn't like with our papers. I was extremely pleased to see more highlighted parts that underlined parts, meaning that my paper was on the right direction. The things i need to work on, as explained by her remarks, is that i need to add more detailed facts about my magazine, specially my article. For instance, when i write about the pictures in the article i have to explain how the layout it, how the images are displaced throughout the article, the use of color in the pictures, etc. However, i also have to get more in depth about the style of the magazine and specially the style of how the article its written, understanding who the article was written to.

Peer Review for Paper 2 oct. 3

Today i talked with Abby about my topic for our second paper. First we started talking just about our topic and as we talked more and more we started getting ideas of how to write our paper. I learned that when i first talk about my topic, i will get more ideas than just starting to write. I will approach this essay by finding an article that has multiple pictures that go with the article. I choose this topic because i get every week a Sport Illustrated magazine and i always think to my self how this picture help the article. Like when ever i don't understand something in the article i look at the pictures for a reference.  My peer reviewer asked me if i am going to use the whole magazine or just one article in the magazine. Also she asked me if the pictures i was choosing were from the same article or just throughout the magazine.

Class Blog for October 1st

Todays class started like every regular class. We rushed to our seats and jumped on the computer waiting for everyone to get settled down. Once Ms. Lang did attendance we started to talk about the essay we read for homework. She explained to us that we can use this essay as a template for our second paper, which the discovery draft is due wednesday. However, there were a lot of classmates that argued that as the essay in the book went through the first and second revision it became harder to read and follow along. Many of our classmates believed the first essay in the novel was written better than the final.

As we kept discussing about the short essay we figured out what the thesis statement was. It was hard at first to figure what it was but as a class we figured it out. We concluded that for this essay the thesis was that movies and comic books can be as good as the book it is derived from. Once we got this we started discussing if this is true. So we made a list of recent movies we have watched that we have also read the book. The list included The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Narnia, Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, V for Vendetta, The Notebook and Game of Thrones.

After discussing the recent movies we have watched we started talking about the small excerpt we had to read form the Hunger Games. We talked about everything we felt, imagined and interpreted from the excerpt. After discussing all of our feelings, we watched the same scene from the movie to see our reaction. We were able to differentiate how the movie made us feel and how the reading made us feel. For some kids the reading was able to portray a sense of better imagery and we could feel what Katniss, the main character in the Hunger Games, was feeling throughout this scene. However, the movie made some kids get more into it then the reading. So to finish the class we kept differentiating the movie and the reading.

In the last five minutes of class Ms. Lang explained how we can relate what we did today in class to our assignment for our second paper. Hope this help you if you missed class today.

Awkward Family Pictures

This picture is centered around being a family portrait. There is a mother, father and son; however, the mother and son are relaxed for the picture but the husband is dressed in a speedo flexing for the camera while kneeing, kinda in a showing off position. The first thing that draws my attention is the fact that the father is wearing a speedo and he is flexing while his wife in regular blue jeans and a laid back button down red shirt. This picture is about a long story of how the father likes to show off his body and do stuff in public for others while the mother and son are more conservative. Since i am more of a conservative person this made me see that the guy loves being the center of attention and dress to receive more attention.

Movie Narrative Intro and Conclusion

Writing my narrative introductory paragraph was single handedly one of the hardest paragraphs for me to write. I though about starting with a quote or maybe a little story of me as a young boy watching my favorite movies, but none of them seem the best way for me to start my essay. So as we were taught i wrote my first shitty introduction and kept on going with my paper. After we did our peer review I went back and rewrote my introductory paragraph. Now i knew what i wanted to put in the introduction and what stuff to take out. My introduction now starts with a strong statement about how movies affect us. By starting with a strong and capturing statement i hope the readers would get hooked to the essay and want to keep on reading. My conclusion was written three times. I couldn't get it to be how i wanted it until the three revision. In the conclusion i don't answer the statement but i summarize the statement i made in the introduction about movies. Its almost like i proof that the statement about movie is true. I do believe my conclusion answers the "So What" question that the book arises.

Digital Movie Narrative

The peer editing was extremely useful since i wasn't in class on Monday. I was able to get another person response to my paper instead of the same person over and over. The one thing i might change about my paper is that in stead of focusing on multiple movies i might focus on just one movie and go more in depth on it. By going into a movie i would be able to get more details and examples that relate to me. Also i am going to change how each show created a new view toward the world. And how this new perspective prepared me to the world.

Movie Narrative Peer Editing workshop

The peer editing workshop today help me understand what direction i want to go with my essay. Before i had a little idea of what i wanted to do but didn't know how to express it. I understand that the only way for me to keep on going is by understanding what i want this paper to say. I started thinking and concluded that during each of my eras something important rose and became a part of my life. The peer editing was extremely useful in understanding the point i want to betray in the essay and how to bring it into the essay.

John Wayne: A Love Song

After reading "John Wayne: A love Song" and watching the clip to the movie Joan Didion learned how a man should be acting. From the movie, John Wayne was always the one that wasn't looking for trouble but trying to get others from trouble. Even though the four brother could have been hot-headed, John Wayne always kept his cool and tried to get other away from trouble. For example, his little brother at the bar was about to start a fight with a guy because he said his father was a liar but John Wayne walked in so there wouldn't be a fight.

The movie Coach Carter has a profound affect on my life through out high school. That movie showed me how one should give it all they can toward one cause, even if its a basketball team. Having played basketball throughout all of high school this movie helped me work harder because I realized that everyone needs to give all they can, after all we are all one team. It also made me understand the importance of school, I know school is important but it explained how I should work for every grade because you want the best thing outcome for you. It made me feel like i should force my self to do my best at everything.

"Shitty First Drafts" by Anne Lamotts Blog

After reading Anne Lamotts "Shitty First Drafts" it gave me a bost in confidence. I thought that writters would just sit down and write all day producing amazing work. However, she expalined that everyone has to write a first essay that might be horrendous and might not even make sense, but one needs to put all the thoughts down on papers before movinh one to the second draft. When she explained in the text about her job writting for California magazine I believed she would say it was her easiest job ever; however, Anne was having a difficult time because she was not able to put her first essay down on paper.  In this essay Anne helped me by expalining that everyoen has a difficulty writting, even great famouse writers.

When I beggign to write an essay i have to put all my thougths down on paper. Ussualy i jot down my main ideas on a blank piece of paper and go on from there. Wether its tryign to look for examples from the text or online. Once i got all my main ideas and supporting ideals written down I attempt to start my essay. At first I sit in my chair with a blank look on my face tryign to come up with a deceant introduction. Once I start writting I keep going till I realize my sentences aren't making sense so I take a 10-15 min break so relax and eat soemthing. When I return to write I read what I typed before and continue from there. I take several breaks while I write because it gives me more time to think and come up with better ways to write my essay.

My writting process is like making a cake. First you need to get all the materials you need, than you need to mix them up, than put them in the pan and then cook it. However, at the end, after all the work, when the cake is completed you see perfection. All the thing that the cake is missing is the frosting and the decorations to top it and then your done.
